Kids These Days!

We went to the zoo for the first time in ages today. It was a nice sunny, 80 degree-weather day. In other words, probably the hottest day this year thus far. Nice, no? After a double-blizzard winter!

Well.... apparently it was TOO HOT for the zoo! The boys walked around like they had had the sweat rung out of them after walking through only half the zoo, aka, when we got to the elephant section. We saw baby Samson, the baby elephant. Exciting, no????

Me: Look Jared, the baby elephant is sooo cute! He's HUGE for a baby, isn't he?!

Jared: That's cuz he's an ELEPHANT, MOOOOOMMMM.

We went with Vivian and "baby Eric" (who is a month older than Jared, but will eternally be known as that, so we can distinguish him from Daddy, who is also an Eric. Poor kid!) Jared and Eric kept bickering and arguing over wanting the same thing, or not. Alex turned to me, exasperated: THESE TWO bicker over EVERY LITTLE THING!

Me, gleefully: ahh... well, now you know how I FEEL with just you and Jared. :D

Alex, mouth wide open, getting ready to argue, then apparently had a change of mind, and grinned instead.

Aha!

After the zoo, we had a follow-up doctor's appointment for Jared. The poor kid had to be sticked yet again, for blood test. Ever since the last fiasco of blood drawing, several things has happened... (Note that last time he started crying BEFORE they even took out the needle. Heck, he started crying before it was even his turn!)

Anyway, so apparently Eric went to get his tetanus shot and was "crying" before, during and after the shot, mimicking Jared, and the boys thought it was funny.

and me? I started the dual tactic of shameless bribery and peer pressure. I told him we'd go get milkshake after the pricking of the needle, AND, that there was a little baby girl getting her fingers pricked right before Jared and she didn't even blink, let alone cry! I was allllll over that one! Pointing out to Jared, and making sure he feels REAL bad about even thinking about crying before the needle this time!

Well whatever actually did the trick we'll never know. But at least (!!!) he didn't start crying until he actually got the needle this time! This is very reassuring all the time, that he would never become a junkie. He'd start crying if he had to shoot up his arm. :D *sigh of relief!* (Hey, I gotta take any comfort I can get!)

But I digress.... After the SECOND (I hate those wiggling needle under my skin trying to find blood crap, but that's what he got. :( ) attempt finally saw blood, he calmed down a little. The nurse had THREE tubes to fill! I was wondering if they planned on leaving Jared any, and Jared, clearly wondering the same thing, watching the last tube getting filled with his blood, asked:

"Can I have one of these???"

So no junkie, but definitely a risk for goth???
