Sightseeing Tunnel and Shanghai Aquarium

Another rainy holiday in Shanghai. Last day of New Year's day holiday here. We went to PuDong (literally means Huang Pu River's east side) today. Went through the Sightseeing Tunnel which started from the Bund on the west side, and ended on the east side of the river. The sole reason for the tunnel seems to be attracting tourists. It's a short tunnel with little carts that goes across the tunnel where a spetacular lightshow dazzles the riders. The kids, needless to say, LOVED it. Jared liked it so much he kept talking about it and kept wanting to go on it again. Only a promise of going again after Daddy gets here finally quieted him, for the time being.

The Shanghai Aquarium awaits on the other side of the tunnel, not far from the Oriental Pearl.

Shanghai Aquarium

The Aquarium is very cool. There are lots of underwater passageways that showcases all sorts of interesting fish and other water creatures. Most of the big displays are with half-height glass walls. So it's easy to see inside. Much nicer than the fully enclosed spaces at the Baltimore Aquarium, IMHO.

There're also specific sections for fish and such from different areas. There is a section for the YanTze River area; one dedicated to discovering the Amazon; a section on the Polar regions; and one on deepsea exploration. All are very well presented. The coolest thing Alex liked are the two giant crocodiles. And the escalator that goes under water. Neat!

touching sharks
The kids even got to touch a baby shark (eek!), to which Alex informed me that it's a little rough and prickly. A good time was had by all!
