My dad showed me a 3D map of Shanghai today. Well, most of Shanghai anyways. It's awesome! It looks much better than Google Earth. It's got almost all the buildings very realistically. However, it doesn't extend to the very edge of the main city, or jiao qu (countryside in Chinese). The City Planning Museum has an actual model of this also. Very aggressive to understake such a huge project, but a fine job it is. Now you can see those funky skyscrapers I've been talking about in 3D. :D
You can also click on the buildings to see what they are and a little info about the building. Although all this information is still only in Chinese. I imagine one day they'll have it in English as well, like everything else here. Just takes time. There are markers for bus stops, subway stations, hospitals, and even billboards, much like the real Shanghai. Cute! You move the map around much like the way you move google map around, but it's a little less fluid.
