I think it's about time I do some blogging about the most delicious food I've been having ever since I got here. Boy, do I miss that! My parents like to go out to eat a lot, but all I want is homemade food. And their maid has been hand-trained (not sure if that's even a correct way of saying, but you know what I mean) by my mom, who is an EXCELLENT cook, as can be testified by the shrimp dish she came up with out of thin air, that everyone loves.
Anyway... We had crabs the other night. Fresh water crabs. Tender, moist, and absolutely heavenly! Of course we spent most of the times trying to pick the crabs, for Alex! He loves crab meat, but doesn't know how to pick it, or don't want to. The dipping sauce for the crabs is made of Chinese vinegar with lots of ginger bits and little bit of sugar. So yummy! (Yes Liz, I know I'm making you drool. :D Serves you right for not coming with me!)
Today, we are going to have real dim sum with some of my parents' friends. I can't wait!
Speaking of my parents' friends. A follow-up note on my present buying that I have griped about in earlier entries. I have given away all the gifts, and have to say, I didn't get enough, it seems, $2000 later. Ah well...
Oh, back to food. Alex's been having lunch at school. He's actually enjoying the food, to my surprise. But one day he came home and said in his most disgusted voice:
"We had shrimp today. But they didn't do anything with them. They just killed them. The heads, brains and blood and the black stuff and shell and tails are all still there. It was DISGUSTING!"
Well, that's how most Chinese people eat their shrimp. They get them all. Bah, the kid's spoiled. Can't even peel his own shrimp.
