da Boys

jared hugging teacher jared in front of xmas tree at school

Time flies! We've been here for 2 and half weeks already. And Alex has a birthday party to go to, already, for one of his classmates this Sunday. He's been making friends as well as enemies at school. Though he told me today that the two mean girls weren't mean to him today. Thank goodness! He's in an all foreign-student class. There are kids from Korea, Japan, Singapore, the U.S., Canada, Spain and I'm not sure what other countries. It's a small class and most of them speak English. So Alex's been doing just fine at school. Except for the problems with the "two mean girls" of course. Homework, on the other hand, is a nightmare! What they teach in school is not for kids to learn Chinese, but learn to not only to speak, but to read, and write and even Chinese poetry! Alex is not getting much out of this school, I'm afraid. And the fact that most of the kids speak English doesn't help either. But the artistic side of Alex has been picking up writing Chinese characters rather nicely.

As for Jared, he's adjusting to kindergarten/preschool finally! He's been not crying when I drop him off every morning and even not crying after waking up from his nap! This morning when we got to his classroom, he ran over to one of his teachers and gave her a HUGE hug! Guess he's not worried about mommy leaving any more. *sniff sniff* And apparently he understands quite a bit of what the teachers are saying, or at least he does what they tell him to do in Chinese. So either he understands, or he just follows what other kids are doing. most likely the latter though. I'm not dellutional. :)

My dad, on the other hand, does not think they are learning fast enough, or learning enough, period. So he's getting a tutor for them every Saturday morning for 2 hours, strictly Chinese conversation lessons. My poor kids! They are getting Chinese shoved down their throats left and right. They are picking up some basics, like thank you, goodbye, and dinner time. hehe
