You Don't Get What You Want

Jared: Mommy, when I'm 10, Alex is going to be 15. And when I'm 15, he's gonna be 20! I can't wait til I'm 13.

Me: Why? What's so good about 13?

Jared: Actually, I can't wait til I'm a grown up. Like 20 or something.

Me, feeling infinite wisdom and grown-up: Don't rush it, baby. You have the rest of your life to be a grown up. Enjoy being a kid! So...why do you want to be a grown up?

Jared: Because when you are a kid, you don't get what you want!

And they say I spoil my children by giving them everything they want! Ha!
