Jared: Mommy, it's so sad that our algae eater died! It was huge and it was tangled in the bushes...
My ears perked up: Bushes? Algae eater? Ours??? Or do you mean at your school?
Jared: Oh no, ours. Our algae eater died.
Me: What??? How come I've been home 2 hours and no one told me this???
I rushed up to check on it, still half disbelieving.
Me: OMG! It's really dead!
I'm totally panicking now. We've had this fish forever! It's the last one of the originals! The last of the survivors! Now I have totally failed in raising fish! Fish! I can't keep fish alive, how do I know I can be a good mom??? Everything I ever believed in is in doubt now.
I'm staring at the fish. It's kinda salmon colored. Bloated in the belly area and um... greyish colored. and LUMPY! Ewww.... It almost looked like it ate some snails (yeah snails are threatening to take over our fish tank. We got an abundance of those annoying creatures!), and choked on one! It was, frankly, quite disgusting looking. I used the net to fish out the poor dead fish from the bottom of the tank (aren't dead fish supposed to float?? Well not this one!).
Someohw, I just couldn't go back to my salmon after that...
