Alex was off today, teacher professional day at school, whatever THAT means. So we headed to the zoo. Of course everyone else in Montgomery County must have had the same idea, cuz the parking lots were PACKED!
The DC zoo isn't my favorite. Too much walking for too few animals. But now they seemed to have expanded their animal collection and is adding an Asia Trail. Very nice, I have to admit. I might even go back, at this rate!
Go back, if the kids wouldn't whine so much, that is. It was NOT the best trip. First I found out soon upon arriving at the zoo that the battery in my camera was mostly dead, and I had forgotten to put the spare in the bag. doh! 5 minutes after arriving, Alex complained that he was hungry and could we please eat. half an hour after that, he claimed that he was too hot and that his legs were tired. Jared, on the other hand, was hopping around and running into people and things. The battery on my camera gave out quickly. Another half an hour and Jared started whining that he didn't want to go any further and preceded to throw a major tantrum. LOVELY. The thought of the "next" water fountain cheered him up temporarily and we hit every single water fountain on the way back to the car, which if you know the DC zoo, there's one every 50 feet or so. YIPPPEEE. I had to carry him the whole way back to the car also, which is a VERY long walk.
Ok, have I complained enough? No, not nearly as much as my children did at the zoo! It was a good plan that didn't go quite as well as I had hoped. But, we might just have to try again when Daddy can go next time. :D
