A quick addendum to my previous post

I just read on the Shanghaiist website that 10 Chinese PhD students started a petition urging people to boycott Christmas. Apparently they think that people should not celebrate Christmas, because this is not just nefarious cultural imperialism on the part of the West (or at least the capitalists in the West) but also linked to a cultural inferiority complex the Chinese have vis-a-vis the West. blah blah blah.

Oh for crying out loud!

Anyway, apparently they also are somewhat "generous" in saying that though they object to the celebration of Christmas by Chinese people, Chinese Christians are allowed to, and they believe in and respect people's rights to their beliefs. ha!

Well, so I thought I'd clarify that my parents ARE indeed Christians. Both of them. So we are "allowed" to celebrate and have a party and all that good stuff. Phew, we are in the clear (for now)!

Here I thought we outgrew the whole tyrant thing...
